Summer's Ruffled Black Gingham + Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Giveaway

Last week we were blessed to be in beautiful SC.  We divided our time between the breezy Isle of Palms beach and charming Charleston.   This ruffled gingham top was perfect for the Southern city!

The afternoon we took these pictures was so hot and humid!  I'm surprised you can't see the sweat beads on my forehead!!  We were along Rainbow Row (hence the fun pink house) and there was a breeze coming off the water, but we were still so incredibly hot.  More of my trip and what to do in Charleston will be here on the blog later this week.  So if you are planning a trip there or just curious about what I love about the city, come back and check it out!

So this gingham top has my love for 3 reasons.

1.  The name of the top is Gracie Off the Shoulder Top and my daughter's name is Gracie.  So it was a must that I buy it, right?!

2.  I'm always drawn to a gingham print.  And I love that this gingham is black!

3. Ruffles are so darling and this top has a huge ruffle!

I'll share a funny story from our trip.  As you know, we have a 7 month old puppy (Maggie).  We rented a dog friendly beach house so that we could bring her and my brother-in-law and his wife could bring their dog.  We call her Houdini because she has learned to escape her crate.  So now we just close certain doors around the house and leave her free when we leave the house.  At home she is really good, not getting into anything.

One evening at the beach, while we were in Charleston for dinner that was not the case.  I think because she was in an unfamiliar place.  She destroyed my son's swim goggles and my husband's new (and expensive) sunglasses.  Whoops.  My son and I were the first in the house and saw the mess.  We both grabbed the pieces of his new sunglasses before he saw them.  Knowing that he'd be upset and probably mad at the dog, we decided not to tell him but to replace them before he found out.

He didn't notice they were missing until the next morning when he was leaving to play golf.  He thought he had misplaced them so he wore a different pair to play in.  That day the kids and I went shopping in town to find the sunglasses and replace them.  None of the stores had the exact pair.  UGH!  So I went home and looked online to have them overnighted to our beach house.

But wouldn't you know it, the order got messed up and they were overnighted to our home in NC.  So all week we played along that they were lost.  Terrible, I know.  And I felt horrible all week 'lying' to him about the lost sunglasses.  But we really were trying to be nice and replace them for him.  Finally yesterday as we were packing up to leave, I broke down and confessed.  He wasn't mad about the sunglasses and wasn't mad that we were trying to replace them without him knowing but was upset that he had worried about them all week.

What would you have done?  Looking back, I probably should've told him about the glasses that night.
Lesson learned!

  2. I have bought clothes that had my girls names too, lol! You totally had to get it.

We had a dog that chewed up my husband's sunglasses once too. They were a pair he wore with his motorcycle helmet, he was not happy. Fortunately, he found the mess before I did, because I'm not sure what I'd have done, lol!

  3. My dog chews everything, I feel your pain. I probably would have done the same thing you did and tried to replace. Love this look, your top is adorable and I love the pop of pink!

  5. Hahahaha. I don't know that I would've done it differently, I used to have 9 dogs and was fiercely protective of each one :)

  6. This is the perfect off the shoulder gingham top. I love the ruffle detail on the sleeves, it's so cute. My dog gets into mischief if she's left alone to long. Your plan was good in theory and I think I would have done the same thing too. lol! And it would have worked if it wasn't for the darn shipping mishap :)
