Polka Dot Blouse

Do you ever start a home project and then don't finish?

Weeks ago (while the kids were still home for summer vacation - what was I thinking??) I decided to paint our kitchen and living room.  I wanted it back to a bright white.  When I start a project like this, I dive right in.  Two days of non-stop painting.  Laundry got backed up, the kids had all their stuff out and about and then we left for vacation.  We had a blast and returned with 5 suitcases of more laundry.  Just try to imagine what the house looked like!  The paint cans are still on the kitchen counter begging for me to finish the last section that needs re-touched.  I ignored it the last week of summer vacation and had fun with the kids and tried to dig myself out of the laundry hole I was in.  But now I need to go get a new paintbrush and finish.  This is the week!  Then it's on to the task of redecorating those rooms - new curtains, coffee table, accessories, etc.  It's been well overdue.

So I've been on a black and white kick lately.
Polka dots are a happy print and this blouse from Express makes me happy!  This blouse comes in 28 solid colors and a huge variety of prints and patterns!  Right now they are on sale for BOGO 50% off.    This is a closet staple!

Burgundy Accessories

The two older kiddos started back to school on Wednesday.  Getting back to a schedule and routine has been nice.  They needed some time apart as the bickering was getting ri-di-cu-lous!  (Can anyone out there relate!!?)  I've been having some fun afternoons with our little 3 year old.  She is full of energy and spunk!  Wednesday she just wanted to stop at a park to play and yesterday she asked to go play tennis.  The one-on-one time together has been a blast.  When I'm running around with her, comfort is a must.

Are you looking for an easy go-to dress? This Striped dress from Shein is the answer.  What's not to love?  Black and white stripes on a flattering t-shirt style dress.  I'm wearing a small for reference as I wanted it more like a shift dress than a body con dress.  I'm picturing this dress with a fur vest, utility vest, denim jacket, plaid scarf, long cardigan sweater, booties, or sneakers for Fall and it makes me happy!!

How about this amazing bag from Jordana Paige!  The color is fantastic for Fall and it is big enough to hold all my necessitates for running errands.  You can see her other bags here.  The Cora bag can be carried on your arm, as a cross-body, OR it has a detachable clutch!  Check it out!

Dress: Shein ($11!!!) // Hat: Old Navy (On sale $15!) // Purse: c/o Jordana Paige // Shoes: Nordstrom  // Ring: Nordstrom // Necklace: Frou Frou & Frill // Watch: Michael Kors

What you Need for Fall

Wow, can you believe September is next week?  The days are getting shorter (such a bummer), the weather is getting slightly cooler, football is starting up (Woot! Woot!), and Fall clothes are coming out!   Below we listed some great Fall staple pieces that can be mixed and matched in so many different ways.

Fur Vest: Dynamite // Utility Vest: Nordstrom // Vest: J Crew Factory // Jean Jacket: GAP

All 4 of these outerwear pieces are great layered over tops to help take the chill off in the early mornings or into the evening.  They look fabulous paired with the shirts and bottoms below.  Last year we both got fur vests and wore them constantly - it will be such a fun addition to your closet.  Puffer vests are our absolute favorites!  We wear them constantly in the Fall and even through winter.

Chambray: J Crew Factory // Plaid: Nordstrom // Blouse: Lush // Turtleneck: J Crew // Shirt: Nordstrom // Dress: Free People

For tops in the Fall, we love ones that can be layered.  Of course the ever popular chambray shirt goes with everything.  And a great plaid shirt helps to add color to an outfit.  This Lush tunic really is perfect like the name says.  We both have it in the Olive color but this ivory color would be gorgeous.  I wore tissue turtlenecks all Fall and Winter last year.  They are a closet must-have for layering!  And in the Fall, we love dresses paired with boots/booties.

Distressed Denim: Vigoss  (only $59) // Utility Pants: Nordstrom // Leather Leggings: Nordstrom // Flare Jeans: Nordstrom // Skirt: J Crew // Black Jeans: Banana Republic (only $55)

Distressed denim and black jeans are a must for Fall.  They can be dressed up or down and paired with anything!  Leather leggings are so comfy and look fabulous with longer tunics and sweaters.  Flare jeans are coming back in style and help to give your outfits a different look.  Flutter skirts look adorable paired with little booties!

Animal Print Flats: Sam Edelman // Black Lace Up: TopShop (only $45) // Sneakers: New Balance // Tall Boots: UGG // Booties: shopbop // Rain Boots: Hunter

Every closet needs great flats.  I know we wear them constantly in the Fall.  Leopard print flats go with everything and the lace up black flats are so on trend right now, and a great price!  Booties are our absolute favorite to wear in the Fall.  They look fabulous with jeans to dresses!  Sneakers are a must too.  They are being paired with everything from athleisure wear to pencil skirts!

Phone Case: Kate Spade // Nail Polish: Essie // Tote: Nordstrom  (only $54, love!!) // Necklace: Baublebar // Hat: Old Navy (under $20) // Scarf: Garage

Accessories always add a little something extra to an outfit.  These are some additions that we think are perfect for Fall.  Its so fun to change up a phone case, and this leopard print one is adorable.  It's time to start breaking out the darker nail polish colors.  A bordeaux color looks fabulous against all Fall colors. Floppy felt hats are everywhere right now and are adorable!

We hope this post helps you get your closet ready for Fall!

How to Mix Neutrals

I received this khaki and black top from Shop Pink Blush Boutique.  It is the softest knit sweater EVER!  I love the black geometric pattern on the back but it also comes in a floral pattern if thats more your style.  I decided to pair the sweater with my favorite simple black skirt to keep the look all neutrals.

Do you have a closet full of neutral colors?  Do you like to mix your neutral pieces into one outfit?
I love the look of mixing neutrals and how it gives a chic, elegant and easy look.  Some other amazing neutral color combos are black and navy (like Katey's post here), grey and cognac, navy and grey, black and cognac and blush and grey.

A great way to add interest to a neutral outfit is to add different textures.  This sweater has the super soft knit front and the silk patterned back.  And I paired it with a heavier black skirt.  Other texture combos could be a suede skirt and silk top, leather leggings and a knit sweater, or jeans and a blouse.

Sweater: Pink Blush ℅ // Skirt: J Crew Factory // Heels: Nine West // Bag: Nordstrom // Watch: Michael Kors // Bracelet: Alex and Ani // Earrings: Happiness Boutique, similar here // iPhone cover: Sonix

A favorite of ours from last week was Grace from Color and Grace.  We LOVE her hot pink fringe bag and how it looks paired with the black and white color combo.  Also, we love the message in her post… be bold!!

Now onto this week's Fashion Party.

How to keep wearing summer dresses

With school getting ready to start in 2 days it got me reminiscing about our summer.  I could go on and on about how much I love Summer... easy mornings without the rush rush of getting the kids ready for school, hot days spent at the pool, stopping to get ice cream just because "it looks like a good day for ice cream" (words of wisdom from my 3 year old), evenings with the hubby on the patio sipping wine, keeping the kitchen clean because we grill out all the time...

One favorite is the ease of throwing on a cute dress and being ready for the day.

What I adore about this particular dress from Shein is that it's going to be gorgeous for Fall as well.  By adding a pair of booties like these, a leather jacket (love!) or denim jacket, or layering a long sleeve shirt underneath, I'm ready for cooler temps.

White Ruffle Blouse

Somewhere in between the classic white button down shirt and the tried and true white tee, sits this beautiful ruffle blouse.  And nothing pairs better than jeans and a white shirt!  For this day I kept my jewelry simple and my accessories nude.  I wanted the white shirt to stand out.

If you follow us on Instagram, then you know we were in Chicago this past weekend for the Create & Cultivate Blogger Conference.  We had great sister time, met some fabulous bloggers and walked away with a boat load of ideas!
Saturday was jam packed with workshops ranging from photography to social media to blog content.  There were small group sessions with mentors, a beauty bar, pop up shops and panels of fabulous speakers.  It was amazing to be surrounded by other women of the blogging community and to hear their experiences and stories.  It was a very inspiring weekend.
We also now feel inspired to expand a little.  Maybe dip our toes into the world of YouTube and Snapchat and really open our personal lives up on this blog.  It's very intimidating to share personal stories, joys and fears.  But that is how connections are made.  We really want you all to get to know us and for us to be able to connect better with you.   So if there is anything you want to see or a topic to be covered here on the blog or on YouTube, please leave a comment below or send us an email.

How to wear a Shirtdress

Last night was a blast!
I spent the evening with my oldest daughter at the One Direction concert at Ohio Stadium.  Imagine a stadium full of screaming tweens, teens, and adults.  It was LOUD! The energy was fun and we were up dancing the entire show!  Have you seen any great concerts lately?

While on our vacation through Michigan, we shopped many boutiques.  I was on the lookout for pieces that could work now through Fall.  This olive utility dress was a great find!  There is a very similar dress at Nordstrom.  I debated posting this as it's similar to the dress Betsy wore back in this post.  But the endless options for how this shirtdress could be worn through Fall just had to be shared with you all!

1. Layer a pattern shirt underneath to give some debth.  I'm picturing a striped or plaid shirt underneath.
2. Layer a lace slip underneath so that the lace peeks out along the trim.
3. Throw on a pair of open toe booties.
4. Wear a pair of knee-high boots.
5. Wear a fur vest over the dress.  This vest from Chicwish is my favorite.
6. Tie a denim shirt around your waist for a casual look.
7. Wear an ever-famous blanket scarf over your shoulders and belt it at the waist.
8. Add a belt.  Animal print, navy, pink...
9. Wear a pullover sweater over your shirtdress.
10. Wear it with sneakers (love) for a chic laid back look.

These pictures were taken in Frankenmuth on our vacation through Michigan.  It is a German resort town.  There is plenty of shopping, we spent time at the pool and watersides, and enjoyed a family-style dinner with authentic german food.
No trip through Frankenmuth would be complete without a stop at Bronner's.  Have you heard of Bronner's Christmas Store?  It is the world's largest Christmas store!  It's HUGE!  Every type of ornament and decoration can be found.  You can also shop their store online.
