"In A Blog" series: #3 How to host a Blogger Link-Up Party

One of the things we mentioned in last weeks' Blogger Series post  (How to increase page views) was to network with other bloggers.  Hosting a weekly link up on your blog is a fun and easy way to do that.  And it will bring more visitors to your blog.  Hopefully leading to genuine followers!
Here are the steps you need to take to host a successful link up party:

There are 2 main tools for hosting/creating your link party: Linky Tools and InLinkz.  Do some research on both.  Visit blogs that use each and see which set-up you prefer.  We chose InLinkz just because we like it's set-up better.  These are free to create and you can always update later if you find you want a more detailed design.

Decide if you want your link up to have a theme.  A DIY link up?  A place where people can come link up their most favorite recent post? A recipe link up?  Pick a theme that fits your blog.  Our link up is focused on fashion since that is our blog's main focus.

Keep your link up party name short and easy to remember.  The name should explain what your link up is all about.  For example, our link up name is 'Tuesday Fashion Party Link Up'.  It tells the readers what day and what our theme is.

A button is a great visual for your link up party.  Participating bloggers can add it to their blog posts, referencing who they are linking up with, or add it to their side bar.  This gives you exposure on their blog.  In addition, be sure to add it to your own side bar with the code for your readers to copy.  Your button should include your link up name and URL or blog name.  We created our button on PicMonkey.  Grab my button code generator can help you make the code for your button.

How often do you want to host your link up?  Weekly?  Every other week?  Monthly?
Whatever fits your blog best, just stick with it!  We host our link up every Tuesday.
Your readers expect your link up to be consistent.  That is how it will grow each week/month.

Running a successful link up takes a lot of work.  No hiding the truth.  Besides the initial creation, set-up process, and promotion, the weekly maintenance can be overwhelming.  An added bonus of a co-host is being able to reach a broader range of people.  You can tap into each other's followers.

This step takes quite a bit of time and continues even after you have created your link up!  Let your followers know ahead of time that you are starting a link up.  Mention it in a couple blog posts leading up to the start of your link up.  Promote your link up across all of your social media channels.   Invite other bloggers to join your link up.  As you make comments on other blogs, mention your link up and invite them to join in!  Participate in other link ups and invite them to join yours.  Once your link up is up and running, send out a reminder email each week to the bloggers who linked up the week before.  The email list of who linked up can be found in your hosting site (Inlinkz or LinkyTools).

We think this is the most time consuming part of a link up party, but probably the most important.  Once you have people coming to link up, it is VERY important to thank them by visiting their site, making a thoughtful comment on their post, and thanking them for joining in.  This step will hopefully keep them coming back to your link up week after week.  It takes some time and as your link up numbers grow, it can feel overwhelming, but it makes a big difference!  We try to comment on all who link up with us that same day.  But sometimes life gets busy and we don't get all the comments done that day.  We try to finish them by the next day though.

Each week we pick one participant from the week before to feature.  We post a picture of them, give a little bio about them and their blog and give a link to their site.  This is our way of saying thank you and helping to share the love.  Remember one of the best aspects of a link up party is finding new friends and bloggers to follow.

Good Luck!
