June Recap

We are starting a new monthly series around here.  At the end of each month, we are going to recap all the things…any travel, top sellers, favorite purchases, etc.

FAVORITE PURCHASES

WHERE WE WENT
Lake Oconee, GA – I had never heard of this lake before our trip, but now I’m a huge fan!  It was gorgeous and just the getaway we needed to kick off our Summer break.  My husband has a work conference every June and this year it was at the Ritz Carlton.  We always turn these into a family vacation.  His brother is in the same profession and attends the conference too with his wife.  We relaxed by the pool, rode jet-skis, tried paddle boarding for the first time…Betsy
TOP SELLERS

FOR OUR HOMES
We are in the process of building a 4th garage, detached from the house.  It’s been a mess out there, especially when it rains.  NC red clay and a pup with white paws don’t go too well together!!!  But the project should hopefully be finished in July and then we can finish the landscaping…Betsy
Also, the peonies were gorgeous here the end of June and I had bouquets of them spread around the house.  Just seeing them made me so happy!!  I wish peony season lasted longer…Betsy

This year we created a garden.  Instead of doing it in the yard, we used a large metal horse trough on our deck.  We planted green beans, cilantro and carrots.  It’s not a huge vegetable garden, but the kids are enjoying watching things grow, picking, cooking and eating the vegetables…Katey

NEW RECIPES
Blueberry Crisp – Blueberry pie/crisp/cobbler is the hubs favorite, so I try to make these on the regular.  This recipe is so good.  With peach season going strong here in NC now, I’m used this recipe last night for a peach crisp.  It’s so good with vanilla ice cream on top.
Guacamole – during the Summer, we find ourselves making quacamole quite often.  Here is my absolute favorite recipe: 2 avacodos (mashed), a few scoops of salsa (we like using a medium heat), feta cheese, cilantro, a few shakes of garlic salt, salt & pepper.  Super easy and quick!  The feta cheese makes all the difference!!
MONTHLY RANDOMNESS
We have a fox that keeps appearing in our yard.  For a while it was just walking through our yard from the golf course to the woods.  Now lately, it is hanging out in our yard.  The kids ( and myself!) are a little uneasy about going outside as we never know when it will come.  I’m trying to figure out how to get it to leave.  Let me know if you have any tips!!  Katey

June was a big month in our house for my daughter.  She turned 15 the end of May, but didn’t finish drivers Ed. until the first week in June.  So she got her driving permit this month and has been driving us all around town!!  She’s actually not too bad.  She also started her first real job this month, lifeguarding at our neighborhood pool.  She loves it and loves the extra money she’s making!!!  Betsy
