Juvly Aesthetics- IPL Photofacial – Q & A’s

Stubborn brown spots and freckles.
Over the last year and a half, I have been going to Juvly Aesthetics to help with wrinkles.  I have always had freckles and lately more and more aging brown spots.  It was time for a more intense facial – an IPL Photofacial to target those dark spots.
If you go to one of the Juvly locations be sure to use code: Laser15 for 15% off your first IPL Photofacial!
There are 4 different treatments offered at Juvly for Skin Resurfacing.  I decided to start with a Photofacial as that is the gentlest.  My skin texture overall is pretty good, I was just concerned with the dark spots.

Before:
Here is an unedited look at my face right before getting the IPL Photofacial.  As you can see, I have quite a few freckles.

Treatment:
The whole process only takes about 20-30 minutes.  A gel is applied to your face and goggles are a must.  The laser light is quite bright.  I would not say it’s painless.  It doesn’t hurt either.  Teresa (my aesthetician) would say “1,2,3” then pulse the light in an area.  Then move to the next spot and repeat all around my face.  To explain it best, it kind of feels like a quick zap.  Around the nose and under the eyes is the most sensitive.  The rest of the face, you barely feel.

This picture below is immediately afterward.  You can’t even tell.  You can apply makeup or not and go about your day.
Below is 2 days later.  You can see the dark spots coming to the surface and they will eventually flake off.
Stay tuned as I will be sharing a before/after picture as soon as my face completely heals.  Probably next week!
All your questions answered here:
What does a Photofacial do?
It is a treatment that uses light to treat skin discoloration – freckles, sun spots, age spots, acne scaring, etc.
Does it help with fine wrinkles?
It can be helpful in regards to treating fine lines as it stimulates production of new collagen.
Did your sister do this same facial?
Betsy had a Halo Laser facial done.  Slightly similar but mine was an IPL photofacial.  IPL is not a true laser.  It emits a broad spectrum of wavelengths that creates a bright flash of light.
Both treat brown spots.  IPL can target redness and can also be used for hair removal.
I’m hispanic and have yellow undertones.  Will a laser benefit for my skin color?
Honestly, I’m not sure.  I would recommend going in for a consultation with a certified aesthetician.  You want to make sure care is taken to prevent hyperpigmentation.
Does this help with sunspots?  Can I do it on my chest too?
Yes!  Any place where you have unwanted skin darkening.
Is it the same as an IPL?
Yes – the treatment I had done is an IPL Photofacial.  You can see all the Skin Resurfacing treatments at Juvly here.
What is the recovery time?
There is no downtime.  I really had no swelling or redness.  I applied makeup as normal the next day with no issues.  You can barely notice the spots that are coming to the surface – especially once I apply makeup.
Does it take away the dark spots?
Yes – that is the main goal!  I’m hoping to get rid of some freckles and age spots.
How many treatments for the best results?
That will vary depending on your skin.  Maybe 3-4 to see the greatest results.
Does it hurt?
As I briefly mentioned above, it doesn’t “hurt” but there is a quick little zap with each pulse.  I was the most sensitive under my eyes.
Should I wait until after the Summer?
That is a personal question.  I was happy to do it now as I am so much more diligent about wearing sunscreen everyday (this is my favorite face sunscreen) and I wear hats at our kids ball games for added face protection.
What is the exact name of the one you had done?
I had the IPL Photofacial.  You can read and see all details here at Juvly Aesthetics.
