Weekend Getaway to Carolina Beach, NC

Eleven years ago, once my husband finished his specialty residency, we really had the option of moving anywhere to start his own practice.  After a lot of research, we narrowed the move to North Carolina.  The best decision we ever made!!!

We ended up in Apex, just outside of Raleigh, and absolutely love living here!  2 hours from the coast and 3 hours from the mountains makes it an incredible place to live.  Not to mention the state of NC is absolutely gorgeous...so many trees and the blue skies!

Living only 2 hours from the coast is the perfect distance for an easy day trip, a weekend getaway or even a week long adventure.  A couple weeks ago, I took my daughter and her BFF for a weekend getaway to Carolina Beach and Kure Beach.  We had the best time!!

If you aren't familiar with the coastal town of Wilmington and it's beaches, Wilmington is a riverfront city, with 3 beaches near by.  The first, and Northern most beach, is Wrightsville Beach, followed by Carolina Beach and Kure Beach further South.  There is so much to do in each of these areas, but we spent most of our weekend in Carolina Beach.

We arrived Friday afternoon to sunny skies and a wonderful warm beach breeze!!  Is there anything better than the smell of salty beach air?  Love it!!  We spent the afternoon exploring our beachfront hotel, the Courtyard Carolina Beach Hotel, and the boardwalk.

These are the views from our hotel room!!  Amazing sunrise views!

The boardwalk, that sits adjacent to the hotel, is probably the best I've ever seen!!!  And it was named one of the most awesome boardwalks in America by Budget Travel.  It's also lined with benches and swings that overlook gorgeous dunes and the beach.  How relaxing to enjoy your morning coffee while swinging!!  After swinging away your morning, you can enjoy the restaurants, sweet shops, souvenir shops and beach gear shops that are along the boardwalk.

In the Summer months, there are amusement rides, a huge ferris wheel, live music and fireworks.  Exactly what you'd expect along a beach boardwalk.  I'm going to need to go back this Summer to experience all that fun!!

After getting situated in the hotel and doing some exploring, we hit the beach.  Look at how white the sands are!!  It's a perfect beach if you love looking for shells.  We rented these beach chairs and an umbrella and enjoyed a little time in the sun.

We had an amazing and fun girls' weekend.  It's hard to beat some down time at the beach!!  If you're looking for a fun NC getaway, I highly suggest Carolina Beach, NC.

Coming tomorrow to the blog, I'm sharing the restaurants we ate at and all adventures we had, including something I never thought I'd ever do!!!  So come back tomorrow to read.

Thanks to the Wilmington and Beaches Convention and Visitors Bureau for sponsoring today's post.
